With La Tribu dojo, we aim to help you discover and understand the diversity of martial arts, while valuing the people who pass them on. Our ambition is to connect disciplines, practitioners, instructors and the organisations that welcome them, without ranking practices or imposing a single path.
The purpose of La Tribu dojo is simple: to help you find a martial arts practice near you that genuinely matches what you are looking for.
Our discipline profiles help you understand what each practice can offer: level of contact, competitive or non-competitive training, self-defence, physical conditioning, technique, breathing, body control, training with or without weapons depending on the discipline, and many other approaches.
You can then search for available activities, instructors, organisations and training venues, so you know more about where to go and what to expect before stepping into a dojo.
A first experience that does not suit you does not necessarily mean that martial arts are not for you. Another discipline, instructor or training environment may simply be a better match.
There is no single path through martial arts. One discipline may suit you better than another depending on your body, personality, background, goals or stage of life. We aim to provide guidance to help you understand this diversity, explore different approaches and find a practice that suits you, without declaring one discipline the winner.
My name is Adrià, and I am the founder of La Tribu dojo. I started this project to help you find your way through the diversity of martial arts. Whether you come from MMA, another discipline or are just starting out, it is not always easy to understand the different approaches, find instructors who suit you and know where to train.
My own path developed through travelling and practising the martial arts I encountered in different places, with different people and at different times in my life. I did not try to decide which were the best: I learned to recognise those that suited me personally and gradually build my own practice.
With La Tribu dojo, we want to make this path more accessible: to help you discover disciplines, understand their approaches and meet the people who teach them. We also aim to make these exchanges easier across borders. Our role is not to choose for you, but to offer guidance and opportunities so you can shape your own journey.
Beyond techniques, martial arts can also offer confidence, discipline, greater self-awareness and tools for personal growth. We want to pass on and preserve this richness while respecting your background, goals and way of practising.
We do not seek to rank martial arts or impose a single path. For us, competitive and non-competitive practice are equally legitimate: they are different ways of practising, learning and passing on knowledge. What matters is that you can find a practice that matches your goals and expectations.
We are committed to respecting the people who teach and pass on martial arts. We aim to present disciplines, instructors and cultures accurately, without reducing them to stereotypes or using one tradition to diminish another.
Martial arts legitimacy cannot be bought. No payment, subscription, partnership, service or sponsorship can secure a better assessment, a preferential recommendation, or Listed, Partner or Network Member status. The commercial activities of La Tribu dojo Pro remain separate from this recognition.
You may train for competition, contact and performance, to learn self-defence or to maintain your fitness. You may also seek discipline, body control, breathing practice, confidence or a more inward-looking approach. These goals can complement one another and evolve throughout your journey.
We do not seek to set these approaches against one another. We want to help you understand what a discipline, instructor and training environment can offer, so you can choose a setting that matches your expectations and the level of contact that suits you.
MMA also illustrates this diversity: it combines contributions from several disciplines. What can distinguish two fighters includes their ability to choose disciplines that suit them, adapt to those they encounter and integrate what they learn into a coherent practice. Simply adding techniques together is not enough: how each person absorbs, practises and uses them matters too. This does not make MMA a definitive martial art or one that is universally superior to others. You, too, can shape your own path according to your characteristics, needs and goals, whether by exploring one discipline in depth or trying several approaches.
A bad experience does not necessarily mean that martial arts are not for you. Another practice, instructor or environment may be a better fit. We want to give you guidance to explore these possibilities.
